Why Have I Hit A Plateau?
There are a few reasons why this happens. If you started a fitness routine to lose weight, you will often find that the initial weight can come off fairly easily. Of course, everybody is different, but what frequently happens is that things come to a screeching halt when you are just 10 or 20 pounds away from your goal weight. Another issue comes up if you’re trying to get a specific body part in shape. Maybe you just can't get that flat stomach, or your arms are not as toned as you like.
There’s a good chance you’ve reached a plateau because it’s time to up the intensity of your workouts. If you are already working hard, you may not want to hear that. What you have already been doing has been working great, but if you want more results, you have to up your game.
Increasing intensity is one way to break through a plateau, another is to vary your routine. If you’ve been doing the same moves day in and day out, you will not only hit a plateau, you will also find yourself getting bored. That, combined with a lack of progress, could tempt you to throw in the towel.
Next time you’re at the gym, try changing up your routine. If you normally hit the machines, try some free weights, or check out a class. Working different muscle groups and doing more intense activities not only challenges you physically, it challenges you mentally as well.
